The
Institute For Figuring is proud to announce our involvement in Fair
Exchange, an innovative exhibition taking place at the LA County
Fair. Sandwiched between displays of prize-winning doilies, bottles
of potted fruits and champion stud bulls, the IFF will be showing
two specially produced installations of hyperbolic crochet models
– the curvaceously ornate “Cactus Garden” and
the gently undulating “Kelp” section of our ongoing
hyperbolic coral reef. Both installations will be in the “gems
and minerals cases” of Tapestry Hall of the fair, alongside
the splendid handicrafts of expert knitters, crocheters and tatters
from around the country. We are thrilled to be part of this annual
celebration of home-made marvels and invite you all to join us at
the Fair.
In conjunction
with the LA County Fair this year, Millard Sheets Gallery –
located on the fairgrounds – is holding an exhibition of Los
Angeles artists. Curated by Irene Tsatsos, former director of LACE,
the exhibition addresses themes of community and fabrication, linking
the work of local artists to the context and practices of the fair
itself. The gallery is open throughout the duration of the fair
and the curated show will be extended through the end of October.
On Saturday September 16 (12noon – 2pm) the Institute will
be holding a workshop on hyperbolic crochet at the Millard Sheets
Gallery. For advance reservations please visit the Fair
Exchange website.
or call Millard Sheets Gallery.
