The Crochet Coral Reef Exhibition Schedule

The Crochet Coral Reef at The Chicago Cultural Center, Fall 2007

Exact exhibition schedules and further information about all exhibitions will be posted when known.

- Scottsdale Civic Center Library (Scottsdale, AZ)
From April through July 2009 the Crochet Reef will be showing at the Scottsdale Civic Center Library in Scottsdale, Arizona. This will be the first exhibition of the Crochet Reef in a desert state and we know the Reefs will look thrilling in these dry environs. The exhibition will feature the debut of the Scottsdale Reef, which is currently under development, plus all the IFF's Core Reef Collection. More information coming soon.

April 11 - July 11, 2009
Opening Reception: Saturday April 11, 2009

- TRACK 16 Gallery (Santa Monica, CA)
During Jan/Feb 2009 the Crochet Reef will be showing at Track 16 Gallery in Santa Monica. On show along with the IFF's Core Reef Collection will also be the Chicago Reef, the New York Reef and parts of the UK Reef. The exhibition will also include several new Reef constellations by individual contributors, including an incredible white reef by Dr Axt, a miniature grove of coral spires by Arlene Mintzer, and Nadia Severn's plastic+yarn Bottle Tree Garden. The exhibition will also debut an expanded version of the IFF's gigantic plastic-trash-agglomeration, the Toxic Reef.

Jan 10 - Feb 28 2009
Opening: Saturday Jan 10, 6-9pm

- SHOW Gallery (Staten Island, NY)
Following the triumphant debut of the New York Reef in the IFF Crochet Reef exhibition at the World Financial Center, Winter Garden, during the Summer of 2008, this magnificent creation by New York crafters will be on exhibition at SHOW Gallery on Staten Island during Fall 2008. Along with the New York Reef will also be the Chicago Reef, which made its debut at the Chicago Cultural Center in Fall 2007. Both reefs are the result of vast collective citizen energies - in each case more than 100 people have contributed models - and we are delighted that they will be on-show together here in Staten Island, overlooking the water just a hop, step and skip from the world famous Staten Island Ferry.

156 Stuyvesant Place
Staten Island, NY 10301

Closing Party: Saturday Dec 20, 7-9pm
(the gallery will be open all day from 11am)

- Hayward Gallery (Southbank Center, London, UK)
During Summer 2008 the Hyperbolic Crochet Coral Reef will be showing in London at the Hayward Gallery. The exhibition will include an expanded version of the Bleached Reef, a new configuration of the Ladies Silurian Reef, the beautifully archaic Branched Anemone Garden, and the ever-growing Toxic Reef. On show for the first time will also be the amazing new Chicago Cambrian Reef (curated by IFF contributor Aviva Alter), plus a new incarnation of the Beaded Reef (by master beaders Rebecca Peapples and Sue Von Ohlsen). The exhibition will also feature a new, all-plastic installation entitled The Exploding Plastic Inevitable (with pink crocheted sand by Kathleen Greco, craft-lace corals by Evelyn Hardin and bottle trees by Christine Wertheim.) Hanging elements in this exhibition will include the Rubbish Vortex by Australian contributor Helle Jorgensen, a cloud of jellyfish made from recycled packaging materials by Irish crafter Inga Hamilton, and Dr Axt's psychedelic coral-cloud Reefer Madness.

In addition to the IFF, reefs the Hayward exhibition will also see the debut of the UK Reef, which is currently being constructed by crafters and crocheters across the UK.

The exhibition will include the Bleached Reef, the Branched Anemone Garden, and the Ladies Silurian Reef.

As a sister exhibition to the Broadway Windows site, a second exhibition of IFF crochet corals will be staged at the World Financial Center, Winter Garden. On display here will be the IFF's yarn-and-plastic-extravaganza, the Toxic Reef. The Winter Garden show will mark the debut appearance of the Rubbish Vortex crocheted entirely from used plastic shopping bags by IFF Australian contributor Helle Jorgensen, and The Other Crochet Reef by the mysterious Dr Axt. On display will also be a large cloud of plastic jellyfish forms by Irish contributor Inga Hamilton, Cambrian Explosion forms by Aviva Alter, hyperbolic octopii by Helen Bernasconi, and beaded hyperbolic marvels by Rebecca Peapples and Sue Von Ohlsen. The WFC show will also debut the New York Reef, currently under construction, and will see the New York premier of the Chicago Reef.
